Carpet Care

New carpets are a major investment, so take care of them! It’s important to have your carpets professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months, but you can take steps to keep your carpets looking good between cleanings. Take your shoes off before entering the house to avoid bringing in more dirt, and vacuum regularly, even if the floor doesn’t look dirty. When vacuuming dirt, spills, or other stains, go over the spot at least five or six times, instead of the usual two or three, which only removes some of the dirt. Vacuum in several different directions to get as much dirt as possible. If you stain juice or another liquid on the carpet, immediately use a white cloth or paper towel to dab it up. Blot the spot; do not rub it! Rubbing will push it further into the carpet. For more severe stains, contact a professional for cleaning.
