Humble beginnings

Marion's Carpet & Flooring Warehouses started in 1965 as a furniture upholstery business on Southeast 52nd. Marion Skoro, the founder, had immigrated here from Croatia and ran the business with his wife, Mirela.

One day, a man came in and dropped a chair off to be reupholstered. He became a friend of Marion's and brought in many pieces of furniture to be reupholstered over the course of a few years. This man was a representative of one of the largest carpet manufacturers in the world, and through this friendship, Marion began selling carpet and quit doing upholstery in 1976.

Evolution of flooring products and services

In 1983, Marion added hardwoods, sheet vinyl, laminates, and area rugs to his offering. Rodda Paint approached him and his son Carl in 1987 asking if they would like to expand their business. Carl took over the business about this time and did an expansion with Rodda Paint. By 1993, Marion's Carpet & Flooring Warehouses had moved from its southeast 52nd location to a giant warehouse on Grand Avenue and had opened six other stores with Rodda Paint.

The success of the giant warehouse on Grand Avenue was so overwhelming that Carl decided to close all the Rodda Stores by 1997. Customers loved the incredible deals the huge warehouse could offer and bought by the truckload. This became the model for all of Marion's buying and the jingle in all of Marion's TV spots. "WE BUY ROLLS SO YOU PAY LESS" means buyers who can buy huge quantities at a time are rewarded with lower prices from the carpet mill. Marion's regularly offers merchandise to customers for less than other dealers can buy them for. This is the premise Marion's has built its business around. had moved from its southeast 52nd location to a giant warehouse on Grand Avenue and had opened six other stores with Rodda Paint.

Modern day

Most flooring stores in the U.S. are less than 5,000 square feet in total size, while Marion's display areas cover over 40,000 square feet. Marion's Carpet & Flooring Warehouses has Oregon's largest inventory in every category, including area rugs, laminates, hardwoods, carpet rolls, bound rugs, and runners. We have a strong base of satisfied customersthroughout the Portland area, we've earned an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and we have won the award every year for the last decade in the flooring category for Portland's Best. In return, Marion has shown its firm dedication to the community by supporting a wide range of charity organizations in the local and regional areas. In addition, Marion's Carpet & Flooring Warehouses is only one of two dealers in the Portland area that carries the most distinctive and high-quality line of carpets, Karastan, and Marion's has repeatedly been told by mill executives that its stores are among the nicest in the entire country. Marion's has also been lauded for the expertise of its owners and staff; Carpet Carl has been featured in the national flooring magazine several times for his buying and merchandising expertise.
